All State 2012 G J. Mychal Reese (L) of Bryan High School has a new back court mate with the recent move in of 2013 G Travon Landry (R) who started as a freshman at San Antonio Madison this past season. Reese earned All State honors as both a frosh and a sophomore, but now it will be much tougher to key on him with the addition of Landry who brings his own National reputation.
I had the opportunity to sit down with Bryan High Coach John Reese (J. Mychal's dad) and Papa John Landry at the GASO this past weekend. The Landry's are relocating because of a new job opportunity. It's going to be fun to watch these to kids for the next two seasons being reunited in the same backcourt.
Reunited, you say? YES. The boys played together on the great young Texas D-1 Ambassadors teams who lost two AAU National Championship game heartbreakers back 2-3 summers ago. That team also included big time players Rashad Sulaimon (Strake Jesuit), L.J. Rose (2nd Baptist), Winston Sheppard (Findlay Prep) to name a few.
Bryan High usually lacks height, but they're a scrappy, gritty bunch who'll get after it no matter who they play. Throw 2013 W 6'4" Chris Johnson (Texas D-1 Ambassadors/Houston Defenders) into the mix and the Vikings should be giving folks fits for the next several years.
