Tonight's game sees Steele 2-1 in 27-4A and Kerrville with the same District record is State ranked at 14th. Host Steele is a senior laden squad (all but one player) so it appears to be this year or else for them. Tivy is also loaded with three Senior's; 6'6" P Tyler Kotson, 6'7" Taylor Finlay and two time All Region CG Jonathan Perry.
Steele got off to an 1st quarter 18-12 lead behind hot shooting as a team. Early foul trouble to Kotson hurt Tivy , but they received some good minutes from their bench and closed the gap, eventually taking the lead late in the foul plagued half where each team got whistled 15 times a piece. This included a half dozen charge calls in an abundance rarely seen in a high school game. Tivy led 34-31 at the break.
Fouls continue to mount as a total of 8 players have 3 fouls. Both benches came into play in the 3rd quarter. Steele has kept it close by a combination of solid perimeter shooting, (especially from Derrick Cook) coupled by loose perimeter D by Tivy. That's inexplicable to me as it's not like Steele has an inside presence to cause them to sag off the outside guys, IMO. Tivy 49-45
In the pivotal 4th, Tivy got off to a 10 point lead, but Steele turned up the D and clawed their way back to make it a one point game with 17 seconds left. Tivy missed the front end of a one and one, and with Steele having one last shot their player turned the corner to the bucket but slipped and was called for the travel.
