Preview/Prediction: Wagner is on a roll, I say the T-Birds by 8 as their depth makes the difference. BUT..It's not inconceivable for Rosas, Elizondo & Company to light it up from behind the arc and pull the upset.
This is a tough one. Laredo United has hung the only loss of the year Wagner has tasted on them. Wagner also beat United down in Laredo prior to Christmas. It's all going to hinge on the play of 2010 PG Daniel Rosas who is an unconscious shooter from deep. He does not get intimidated easily. Wagner boasts Tulsa signee, WG Jordan Clarkson but the man who Laredo will have to handle is 2010 W 6'7" Andre Roberson. UCLA is in the house tonight and if they like what they see Roberson could be a Bruin in short order. 2011 P Freddie Juarez will have the task of neutralizing the athletic, bouncy Roberson who can also take you to the perimeter and make you pay.
The 1st quarter was the Roberson-Clarkson Show. Clarkson has 7 while Roberson has 9 and 4 blocks. Laredo United won't go away though as at the half the score is 30-22 for Wagner. 2011 P Freddie Juarez has settled in and scored 6 in the 2nd quarter while pulling down 3 boards.
In the 3rd Wagner hit early as Roberson had 2 dunks but someone forgot to give the scrappy United Longhorns the memo. They closed to within 37-36 before Wagner's late run made it 44-40. Laredo's Michael Elizondo had two from deep to keep the game within striking distance.
Wow. With 4 minutes left it's tied at 44 as Laredo United is dialing long distance. Luis Vila has really put in a day's work on the boards v the taller Wagner players as he has 8 rebounds, most of them coming in the 2nd half. Quickly Wagner went on a 6-0 run, but Rosas hits a LONG three! With 1:03 left it's Wagner up 54-51. Two late free throws wrapped it up. great high school game.
