Pflugerville 84 v Westlake 59 (Varsity)
After graduating PG Cody Doolin (San Francisco) & P 6'9" Gus Leeper (Arkansas-Little Rock) you can't help but figure that this will be a rebuilding year for Westlake. They'll be led by 2013 PG Will Morse, 2013 SG R.J. Rowan (who has a beautiful stroke) & 2012 P 6'6" Drew Wikelius. If Wikelius is healthy he could have a monster year.
Meanwhile, Pflugerville returns a veteran team led by snior Deon Mitchell (Northern Iowa), Cameron Blue, Darian Dempsey, 2011 F Storm Woods (Iowa State-football) & move in Jamal Shabazz. The wild card for The Ville will be the role that heir apparent to Mitchell, 2013 PG T.J. Williams will play. He's got great court vision and could really free Mitchell up to score even more than normal.
Texas D1 PG, Deon Mitchell shot out of the gate in his senior campaign
Game Action: Pflugerville 45 Austin Westlake 30 @ halftime
The young Westlake team is having trouble with pressure. Not at the guard spot as Morse is doing a good job, but the other players aren't coming to the basketball and Pflugerville is swarming. The Panthers have been hot from beyond the arc, while Westlake has missed a half dozen costly chippies. R.J. Rowan leads Westlake with 12 pts at the half. Deon Mitchell leads Pflugerville with 13. There's no answer for him as he gets to the rack any time he wants. Are you listening Northern Iowa fans?
Pflugerville brings waves of athletes at you, most of whom can shoot it from the perimeter. They will wear a lot of teams out during the course of the 2010-11 season.
