There were 8 games yesterday, kicking off the Lone Star Invitational. Not sure why, but the event is not chock full of high end teams this year. There are some very solid individual players on hand though.
Pflugerville 72 San Antonio Taft 70 (OT)
I was in the house for this one, and it looks like I caught the game of the day. In a rematch of a game played in Pflugerville a couple of weeks ago, the Panthers got a little revenge over Taft with an overtime win. Taft had control most of the game, and frankly Pflugerville just begged them to take the game. With a 5 point lead and roughly two minutes left in the game Taft chose not spread the floor. Pflugerville clawed back and in overtime got the W.
It was another one of those games where, with three D1 players on the court both teams got up and down not overly interested in playing a lot of D. I was sitting with the Northern Iowa Coach and he remarked that "man, these boys are hoopin' just like an open gym". Deon Mitchell (Northern Iowa) was in foul trouble the entire game and never got in the flow...not until the OT, that is. He hit a step back 3 pointer and then the decisive and one basket where he showed great body control, finishing at the rim. He had 13 points.
For Taft, I was impressed with Senior WG Deondre' Logan. He's a high energy player who rebounds bigger than his 6'1" and can hit the perimeter shot. He had 27 points and 4 boards. 2011 G Dylan Elias (Northern Colorado) had 14 points while 2011 G Marshall Harris (Citadel) had 8 points and did a nice job of penetrating. The guy who did all the heavy lifting for Pflugerville during the majority of the game was 2011 G Darian Dempsey. He had 24 for Pflugerville. 2011 W Cameron Blue had 10 points & 7 boards, while 2011 Jamaal Shabazz had 13 points, 7 rebounds for the Panthers.

Clark's guard play was able to handle Wagner's trademark fullcourt pressure, many times leading to easy buckets. 2011 F Kyle Rutledge led the way with 20 points and double digit rebounds.

Austin St. Michael's got a pair of wins. beating Fredericksburg 53-51 & Vandergrift 60-48. 2011 Jake Kocher (TexasA&M-Corpus Christi) had 30 in one of the contests.

South San Tournament
San Antonio MacArthur notched a pair of wins. Theu beat San Antonio Memorial 70-48 & then beat Schertz Clemens 54-48. 2012 G Matt Gramling scored 25 & 18 points respectively in those two efforts.
2012 G Matt Gramling (l) continues to show why he's the best guard prospect in the Class of 2012 in San Antonio, while 2011 G Cole Martinez (r) continues his torrid scoring pace.
