Lone Star Invitational Round Up: Saturday, December 3rd

Lone Star Invitational Quarter Finals

The Colony 52  San Antonio Clark 49
It was too much Austin Chatman, as The Colony star (Creighton) had 17 points and with his quickness was tough to contain. 2012 W Austin Burrell had 10 points and 8 boards while tipping countless balls on the boards.  2011 SG Jacob Palacios was one of the better guards in the event as he's deadly from the outside as well as able to hit the mid range over smaller defenders.  He scored 14 to lead Clark, who had their chances to win it. 2011 G Adam Perez had 10 for the Cougars.
Jacob Palacios (l) of San Antonio Clark & Austin Chatman (r) (Cregihton) of The Colony

North Crowley 66 Pflugerville 60
Pflugerville committed 20 turnovers, many of them unforced and North Crowley rebounded much better as a team.  They took a 6 point half time lead and extended it to 20 in a deadly 3rd quarter, coasting to the win.  North Crowley G Kyan Anderson (Providence) is super quick.  He had 19 points, and he scored them effortlessly.  Pflugerville's Deon Mitchell (Northern Iowa) had 20 in the loss.
Kyan Anderson (l) (Providence) & Deon Mitchell (r) (Northern Iowa) may well cross paths again at the next level.

San Antonio Clark 62 Humble Kingwood 47
Kingowood Head Coach Royce Huseman is as good as they come.  When they're talented, he wins State Championships & when he doesn't have much in the way of star power, he still has a dangerous team that controls tempo and wins games.  To Churchill Coach Tim Woods credit he made some nice half time adjustments and got away from where Kingwood had them playing their game at halftime where it was a one point game.

However from the opening bell of the 3rd, Churchill began to get after it and really hurt Kingwood on the boards where 2012 Connor Lammert is gaining confidence every time out. he finished with 14 points, and at 6'9" ended up being a tough matchup when he went to the perimeter hitting three from behind the arc.  There's no doubt that Churchill is a much better team when they played inside out.  It opened up their perimeter opportunities in the 4th quarter when they got several uncontested threes.

San Antonio Reagan 56 Laredo United 45
There was no hot shooting Daniel Rosas or Thomas Elizondo left at Laredo United this year, but Senior 6'6" Freddie Juarez was a one man wrecking crew with 18 points in the loss.  Reagan had too many weapons.  Senior P Brad Coulter controlled the boards and Senior G Tre Demps (Northwestern) had 19, getting to the goal at will.
2012 F 6'9" Connor Lammert (l) continues to impress for Churechill & Senior Freddie Juarez (r)  is the heart and soul of Laredo United.

Lone Star Semi Finals

San Antonio Churchill 78  The Colony 70
The Lammert Boys (Clark & Connor) were at it again later in the day as they spearheaded a big win over the DFW area school.  They dropped 18 a piece and have set up an All San Antonio final tomorrow over district rival Reagan.

North Crowly 62  San Antonio Reagan 54
I didn't get any first hand info on this one but I was told second hand that Reagan lost a 13 point half time lead and North Crowley stormed back to win by 8, shattering dreams of an All San Antonio final at the Lone Star.

On the consolation side of the event, Pflugerville beat Laredo United 74-63 as Deon Mitchell had 27 points to lead the Panthers.  Humble Kingwood beat San Antonio Clark 48-37.

South San Tournament
San Antonio Central Catholic took care of San Antonio Johnson 59-41 as 2011 G Cole Martinez had 17 for the Buttons.  2011 P Anthony Walker (Texas-Arlington) had 13 in the loss.

In the DFW area, the Temple Wildcats have advanced to the Championship game v Richland.
