High School Tournament Round Up: Saturday, December 11th

Austin High 72  Plano  56
2011 G Eric McClellan shown below repping Texas D1 Ambassadors led his Austin High Maroons to the Championship of the Lake Travis Hill Country Tournament.  "Quick" was named the tournament MVP.  They thumped Plano 72-56 as they cruised to the title.

Killeen Ellison 74 Pflugerville 71
Ellison lost a pool game, but recovered to beat host Pflugerville at the Pflugerville Classic with a decisive 3rd quarter where they outscored the Panthers 20-8.  Devonta Brown (Indiana State) had 25 while Jaleel Williams added 19 in the win. It was a nice win for Coach Alberto Jones Ellison Eagles who seem to be hitting their stride.  Deon Mitchell (Northern Iowa) had 19 in the loss.

San Antonio Reagan 102  Pflugerville Hendrickson 99 (OT)
I missed this one, but in the 3rd place game at Pflugerville Tre Demps (Northwestern) had 37 points for Reagan, and 2011 unsigned Jalen Washington put on a show with 48 points in the loss.
Tre Demps (left) had 37, but Jalen Washington (right) had 48.  Demps had the last laugh as Reagan won in overtime v Hendrickson.

Alamo Heights 68  San Antonio Central Catholic 64
Central couldn't handle the bigger AH squad, getting outrebounded by a wide margin.  Central's 2011 G Cole Martinez led all scorers with 25.  Alamo Heights defended their home court and won their own tournament.

San Antonio Madison 48  New Braunfels 45
The Madsion Mavs captured the Rivery City Tournament in New Braunfels by beating the co-host Unicorns in the Championship game despite 15 from 2012 WG Kyle Hittle.
2012 WG Kyle Hittle of New Braunfels
In the 3rd place game, Austin Westlake came out shooting the ball poorly, and it got worse from there. New Braunfels Canyon controlled the boards with 2012 6'10" Andrew Poulter and 2011 W 6'7" too much to handle inside.  Sean Tollinger hit three from long distance in the win.

Katy Seven Lakes 58  Austin LBJ 49
The host jaguars lost the final of their tournament to Katy Seven Lakes despite 16 points from 2011 G Robert Lee.

San Antonio Clark 46  Converse Judson 44 (OT)
Two of the area's better coaches strapped it on in a non district game and Coach Steve Sylestine's Clark Cougars edged Coach Mike Wacker's Converse Judson Rockets in overtime.  2011 Kyle Rutledge led Clark with 13 as they welcomed back difference maker Ansley Benjamin into the mix.

Leander 57  Copperas Cove 40
The Bulldogs had no answer for the Leander Lions in capturing the Hays Tournament Championship.  2011 P Mark Nwakamma beasted his way to 27 points and double digit rebounds in the easy win.
Leander's 2011 P Mark Nwakamm was sidelined half of last season and still not himself suring the summer but he's getting all together again and the Cen Tex had better watch out!
San Antonio Taft 59  Converse Wagner 44
2011 G Deondre Logan had 25 points in the win for Taft over Wagner, capturing the San Antonio ISD Tournament.  Taft's guard play is as deep as anyone's.  Taft made it to the final by beating Austin Bowie rather easily 53-46 in the semis as Dylan Elias dropped 14 and penetrated at will.  It was Bowie's first loss of the year exposing their difficulty when playing from behind against a more athletic team.
