Without 6'9" Triton "Tank" Mayberry patrolling the paint this season, John Paul II is a different crew. Throw in the fact that Hyde Park's two leaders are now seniors and it's a bad recipe for the opposition. 6'7" F Austin Jenkins who can score inside and out had 18 points and 6'5" WG Brooks Pawsat brings a physical presence along with a smooth outside shot and ability to get to the goal., He added 17 in the blowout win.

Austin St. Michael's 64 San Antonio Antonian 61
Not too many times that you see three Division One signees on the floor at the same time in a public school matchup in the Austin/San Antonio area. But in a private school matchup? Never. Well, never say never as yesterday at Antonian they trotted out 6'8" Jonathan Holmes (Texas) and 6'9" Darrious Hamilton (Boise State). St. Michael's countered with their outstanding scoring guard, 6'3" Jake Kocher (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi). I spoke with St. Michael's Coach Mackey Smith Tuesday evening and he was puzzled why this talented bunch of offensive minded seniors were underachieving. They needed a big win.

The game was close throughout with Antonian entering the 4th quarter leading by 4. Holmes finished with 27 points & Hamilton added 6. 2013 G Justin Brickman also had 14 for the Apaches. However, it was Kocher who had the last laugh and he waited until the final buzzer to have it. With St. Michael's inbounding under their own basket, Kocher drove to the right side of the court where he was met by the 6'8" Holmes outside the arc. He dribbled back to the mid lin and with another Apache hand in his face, left the Antonian faithful stunned as he drained the triple to win the game.

After a slow start, which can probably be chalked up to their let down after a big Wednesday win over arch rival, Antonian the Buttons went to work and put Holy Cross away. Senior Cole Martinez had 22 to lead CC.
Kocher (left) was the last second hero for St. Michael's. He finished with a game high 36 points. Cole Martinez (right) led his Central Catholic squad with 22.
