Austin Akins 57 Austin Westlake 42

It's a rare Saturday game, and an even more rare 1pm start.  This was all necessitated by the crazy weather that swept across Texas over the last few days.  This is only one of countless Saturday matinee affairs today around the Lone Star State.  This matchup will go a long way in establishing the pecking order in District 15-5A.  A young Westlake team is vying to snag a plyoff berth while Austin Akins is likely to finish 3rd and are poised for a playoff run with their two key seniors; Yolonzo Moore (Hartford) & Malcolm Canada (Central Arkansas).

There was a lid on the basket in the 1st quarter as most every Akins shot rimmed in and out.  Westlake jumped out to a 12-9 lead.  It was not a good sign though as they missed at least 6 more chippie points that could have extended the lead.  2013 F Lionel Hollins did his usual yeoman's work on the boards grabbing 6 in the opening half for the Eagles.  At the break, Akins had gained a 23-19 edge thanks mainly to some timely shooting from Anthony Rivera who knocked down a couple of threes.
2012 G P.J. Rivera had a breakout game for Akins, hitting timely shots & free throws v. Westlake
The second half was another matter as Westlake became anemic offensively in the 3rd quarter, and Akins 2012 G P.J. Rivera poured it on.  He finished wuth 14 points including a nice 4 point play tht sealed the deal.  Both teams subbed and scored liberally in the 4th quarter but the game was already decided.  Canada had 12 & Moore added 9 for Akins, while nobody on Westlake approached double digits.  2013 G Will Mores had 8 as did 2012 G R. Rowan.  It's not a good day when your two leading scorers are held to single digits.
