Deon Mitchell, shown below with the Texas D1 Ambassadors
http://austin.ynn.com/content/sports/276265/athlete-of-the-week-----pflugerville-guard-scores-high It was our pleasure to have had Deon as a mainstay of the D1 Ambassadors for two seasons. (Only half as much fun as my friend, Coach Mike Murphy had because he coached him for 4 seasons). Deon's the product of a wonderful family (the son of Bennie & Anita Mitchell). They know their son is a good player but like Deon they are humble people. This is one of the traits that will make him an ultra-successful college player. Even though he can score with the best of them, Deon's court vision and desire to get his team mates involved are equally good traits.

My biggest complaint about him was that sometimes on the competitive summer circuit was that he'd defer to team mates when he could have easily taken over more games. Once again though it shows the unselfish side of his game. I've had the pleasure to strike up a friendship with Head Coach Ben Jacobson & with tireless assistant Ben Johnson of Northern Iowa. Deon had bigger name schools tinkering with him, but it was the efforts of Coach Johnson who followed us no matter where we went: John Lucas Camp (Houston), Great American Shootout (Duncanville, TX), Las Vegas Fab 48, or the Desert Duel (Phoenix) that closed the deal and landed the NCAA Sweet 16 program another difference making guard.http://austin.ynn.com/content/sports/276265/athlete-of-the-week-----pflugerville-guard-scores-high
