Houston Cougars Land Killeen High's TaShawn Thomas

The University of Houston has upped the ante in their in state recruiting efforts.  Coach Tom Penders made a living off of Junior College transfers but it's obvious that new Head Coach James Dickey is taking a different approach.  Providence de-commit Joseph Young will have to sit out the year, but then the Houston Yates star will be reunited with his dad, Michael Young of early 80's Phi Slamma Jamma fame.

The big news today though is that the Coogs were in Killeen, TX and received a commit from 2011 6'8" TaShawn Thomas of the Killeen Kangaroos.  Thomas played two seasons with the Texas D-1 Ambassadors before finishing up his most recent summer with the Houston Hoops.
I love Thomas' ability to run the floor, as well as his effectiveness offensively in the high post. He is also an above average shot blocker.  He was also being recruited by Texas Tech, Colorado & Sam Houston State among others.  Congratulations to the Thomas Family and Proud Pops, Kenny.  I received the phone call this morning from Assistant Ulric Maligi as the entire staff were headed back from Killeen.  They also dropped in on Killeen Ellison & Texas D1 Ambassadors star Jaleel Williams while they were in Central Texas, so the UH staff may not be finished in the area just yet.
