Kerrville Tivy 47 Dripping Springs 39

Tonight was Jonathan Perry's as he led Kerrville Tivy down the stretch, including a high flying alley oop dunk off a Deron Belford pass to tie the score at 37. Tivy then finished with a 10-2 run. (Photos courtesy of Todd Winters who drove all the way from Phoenix, AZ grabbed his family and rushed to the game 20 minutes later. Great work, Todd!)
Daniel Alexander contests Taylor Finlay's shot. Alexander finished with only 5 points as Tivy limited his touches. He had 11 rebounds and two resounding dunks, one where he went baseline for the and 1 play. He heads off to Texas A&M for his college career.
True friendship and sportsmanship shown by two friends for life. Tivy's Jonathan Perry will face Harlandale in the next round of the playoffs.
Both teams got out and ran a little bit more than expected in the first quarter which ended 13-12. I think Tivy asserted themselves a little more than Drip, repeatedly getting the ball down low to Kotson pinning the Tigers defenders under the rim. He had 7 points and two offensive rebounds in the quarter and sent Senior P Dustin Rice to the bench with two fouls.

The story of the low scoring second quarter was Alexander picking up two fouls. This is one of those games which is going to be controlled by an overzealous official. I wish they'd let the kids decide the games and not let touch fouls become a deciding factor. 2011 G Deron Belford is joining the Tivy bigs by being active on the boards. He has 5 rebounds to go along with a block. Jonathan Perry has quietly put up 8 points to lead the Antlers.

Alexander was held scoreless but he did drop several nice dimes to go along with 4 rebounds and a block. He could have had a couple of additional assists if his team mates had finished. Luke Gilliam leads Drip with 9 points. As an aside, this may be the noisiest gym I've been in all year. Boerne Champion HS school is at capacity for this one. Rice picked up two additional fouls and with 4 minutes left in the 3rd so he'll have to cool his heels for several minutes. Drip's on a 12-7 run keyed by an Alexander dunk and two pull up jumpers by 2011 G Jalen Jury. Tivy 30-29. Belford hits a tear drop late and the quarter ends 32-29.

Perry began the 4th by blocking a shot, grabbing the board, running the floor, veering to his left and finishing high off the glass and then completing the and 1. He's a gem waiting to be plucked for D-1's in the April signing period. On the subsequent possession Alexander went baseline for the monster jam & and 1 over Perry. A steal and layup by Jury and Drip has their first lead at 37-35 with 5 minutes left. WOW. Perry freaks the Oop from Deron Belford. Tied again with 3:10 left.

Rice fouls out with 2:38 left. Perry ties it again. 39 up. Tivy holds the ball, gets the exact look they want and Kotson scores on a nice up and under move. 41-39 Tivy with 46 seconds to play. Alexander is forced to foul Perry, and he hits the front of the one and one. Timeout! The second shot is...GOOD. Turnover Drip. This one's in the books. Tivy finishes the game on a 10-2 run.

Perry was my player of the game with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. Tivy's 2011 PG Deron Belford also had a nice game finishing with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists while 2011 PG Jalen Drury had 11 points and 5 assists for Drip.
