Triple Threat: Three Valley Teams Remain

As the valley makes a trip to San Antonio this weekend it has three teams from the Rio Grande Valley making an appearance.

5A McAllen High Bulldogs (Coach Roy Swift)
2A Santa Rosa Warriors (Coach Johnny Cipriano)
1A-Div. 2 San Isidro Tigers (Coach Rolando Garza)

All three teams have been down this road before. All three coaches have been to the regional tournament during their coaching tenure. All three teams know what it takes to make it all the way. Now all three teams must fight their way to the top!

McHi makes its third straight appearance at the Regional Tournament this year hoping to advance further. Coach Swift has led his team successfully to this point and feels that this year will be different. McHi starts Sr. forward J.J. Avila who has been a varsity starter since his freshman year. This kid is amazing and truly one of the best D-1 prospects for the RGV area. McHi will face Converse Judson Friday, March 5 @ 6 pm. This game will be the first in a South Texas double header at UTSA. Laredo United will face Wagner @ 8pm.

Santa Rosa will once again be heading to the Sweet Sixteen and will face off against Hallettsville, Friday March 5 @ 6 pm at Seguin High. Last year Coach Cipriano led his Warriors to the Final Four. With players like Sr. Mark Cordero, starting guard Dario Mendoza, and sophmore Aaron Ramirez, the Warriors will have a strong front court which will give opponents a run for their money.

For the San Isidro Tigers, they will face off against Burton at Austin ISD on Friday, March 5 @ 4pm. For Coach Rolando Garza, this is the third time he takes a team to the tournament. The Tigers boast Trey Mills, who finished with 20 pts last night vs San Perlita. Not having a football progam allows the Tigers to zero in on a sport that is becoming huge for Starr County. Each year their basketball program improves and now is ready to show how hard they have worked.
