I did catch up with Steven's Head Honcho, John Hirst after the game though and got an update on Brandon's recruiting. They're inquiring from all over the country. USC from the PAC-10, Baylor & Texas Tech from the Big XII as well as mid majors like TCU, SMU & Wichita State.
I had the pleasure of coaching Brandon this past summer with the Texas D-1 Ambassadors top team. Despite having team mates like Garland Judkins (Arizona freshman), Baylor signee Cory Jefferson, UTSA signee Kendric Robinson & future D-1 guards 2010 Cody Doolin (Austin Westlake), Paul Garnica (San Antonio Lee) and Jacob Horton (Houston Clear Lake) it was clear that when the game was on the line it was Thompson we wanted taking the last shot. He didn't disappoint winning two big games with buzzer beaters at the Denton Shootout. Going head to head against Memphis signee Nolan Dennis of the Dallas Mustangs & Penn State signee Tim Frazier of Houston Elite, Thompson more than held his own and led us to clutch victories.
What I love about Brandon (and I suspect Coach Hirst does too) is that he is unselfish, always defends hard, looks to get his team mates involved BUT when the chips are down make no mistake about it.... He is the man. He's the best San Antonio has to offer in the Class of 2009. Let's see where all this shakes out in the next couple of months as we look toward the April signing period.
