Left To Right:
2011 Malcolm Canada
2010 Kevin McFarlane
2011 Yolonzo Moore
The turnaround at Akins High School has been dramatic. Much of the credit has to go to 2nd year Head Coach David Peavey. I first met him when he was coaching at Gonzales HS. From their he went to Fort Bend Hightower where he had the opportunity to coach current Texas Longhorn D.J. Augustin, and then from there he recruited several of our Texas D-1 Ambassadors players while an assistant at Stephen F. Austin University. The life of a college coach with a young family is a tough one, so Coach Peavey brought his extensive resume to AISD last year. I think it's fair to say that Akins was generally undisciplined in the past, but Coach Peavey has instilled that along with a sense of pride in the kids there.

Look for the Eagles to make some noise in District 25-5A this season. They've got a young group, but they became seasoned in last years campaign and will bring a nice blend of athleticism and hustle to the table. The Eagles will use a motion offense, mixed in with the Memphis "dribble drive" offense. They'll trap in the half court and look to score in transition.

The key to making it go will fall in the hands of 2011 G 6'1" Yolonzo Moore. He's got a good body, can get to the hole and has nice handles and an adequate shot. He's one to look for in the future who could play at the next level.

Other key contributors will be:

2009 6'2" Rashad Miller
2009 5'9" Christian Maldonado
2009 6'3" Brandon Wooley
2010 6'3" Kevin McFarlane
2011 5'11" Malcolm Canada
