San Antonio Doubleheader

San Antonio Madison 52 San Antonio MacArthur 47. Madison showed just enough poise and veteran leadership to win down the stretch in what has likely been Coach Valenzuela's best coaching job in several years. The Mavs are much less athletic than years past and their depth is so so as well, but they have just enough to eke out wins.
UTSA signeee, Tyler Wood (Below) scored 15 for the Mavs, including 8 of his team's 10 points late in the 3rd on an alley oop from Jamaal Johnson and two unlikely three pointers including one where he called "bank" and it went in from downtown. Johnson led Madison in scoring with 19, while the Gramling boys; Senior Chris (14) and Soph Matt (10) led MacArthur. Madison will rematch last year's 1st round game against Austin Akins, while MacArthur will take on Pflugerville. San Antonio Reagan 58 San Antonio Churchill 54. Reagan went up big in the 3rd quarter, but Churchill went with a smaller lineup and came back to tie the score at 52-52 as the game entered the final minute. Tre Demps (below) hit a nice midrange jumper and two free throws to cap Reagan's 8th win in a row. He led Reagan with 18, with many of them coming in the 2nd half. First half leadership was provided by 2011 W Max Yon who scored 17 including a nice flush in transition. Reagan will face Austin Bowie in the 1st round.
Sophomore PG Greg Mammel led Churchill with 20 points. Reagan is now the 3rd seed out of the district, and Churchill will be 4th. They'll face Austin Westlake on Tuesday in the 1st round.
