D1 Nation Players of the Week

From now until the end of the Texas State Playoffs (UIL & TAPPS) I'm going to announce the D1 Nation Player of the Week. I'll announce one from Austin/Killeen & one from San Antonio/South Texas (for the previous Monday-Saturday).  So, without further ado here are my inaugural honorees.

Jalen Washington of Pflugerville Hendrickson

The long (6'4"), bouncy Washington has made the transition from being a wing to a combo guard in his senior year.  He's leading a potent Pflugerville Hendrickson squad in scoring. However, he does so much more.  He's also the team's leading rebounder.  In two games last week he averaged 31 ppg.  Washington decided not to accept any of his early D1 offers in November, playing unsigned.  The move is paying off as he's going to be one of the gems available in the April signing period.  Now schools like UNLV are starting to sniff around.

Cole Martinez of San Antonio Central Catholic
Senior G Cole Martinez has estblished himself as the top shooter in the City of San Antonio.  He is also improving off the bounce and in his midrange game.  Last week he averaged 31 ppg and 7.5 rpg in two wins.  He'll live forever in Central Catholic lore as he hit the game winner as time expired in front of 2500 people at St. Mary's University Greeley Arena vs arch rival Antonian. Martinez is coming on strong.  He's got a full ride offer from Southern Arkansas (D2) but he is a D1 shooter.  Navy & Mount St. Mary's have shown recent interest.
